1 Thibault Residential Apartments

This iconic building in Cape Town’s CBD was converted from commercial to residential space. Aertec’s AAC was selected as the material of choice to comply with the minimum 2 hour fire resistance requirement for all the lobbies, over 14 floors. The intricate block work design was executed with ease due to the workability of Aertec’s AAC. All three block thicknesses were incorporated into the design in order to meet the space constraints in the building. The collaboration between the project Architect, project Engineer and the Aertec technical department, allowed for an engineering design that enables the 2.5MPa block to withstand the dynamic load of the 2hr fire rated door which weighed in excess of 140kg. Aertec’s CEM-SKIM 100 plaster was applied at 5mm thick directly to the walls which assisted with weight saving and simultaneously provided a smooth rendered finish.
