Blouvin Somerset West – Mixed use Refurbishment and Extension

This existing building was originally 2 levels which entailed retail on the ground floor and apartments on the first floor. Part of the project scope was to totally re-design the apartment layouts on the first floor. In addition the developer required an additional floor to be added to the structure which took the building to three floors. The addition of the third floor introduced loading limitations on the structure but with the inclusion of Aertec AAC for all the internal walls on the first and second floor enabled this project to be possible due to the high strength to mass ratio of the Aertec AAC blocks. All the internal AAC walls on the first floor are semi loadbearing where the load is shared with some existing clay brick walls that remain in the structure.
