This luxury home is situated in one of Cape Town’s most prestigious roads. Material handling was a major challenge due to the incredibly steep gradient of the site. The project required that the entire house be renovated and extended by adding an additional floor. All the internal walls were demolished and a complete new layout implemented. The project manager recommended AAC to be used as the walling material to satisfy the permissible loads and simultaneously provide a solid wall which is acoustically insulated. By using AAC, it also allowed project costs to be reduced as the AAC could be easily handled onto site due to its lightweight density compared to conventional masonry. In addition, Aertec’s CEM-SKIM 100 skimming plaster was also specified in order to further reduce the weight of the structure by applying it directly to the wall at 5mm thick.
